A vibrant, drought-conscious planting palette gives Jimmy's Famous American Tavern a distinctive streetscape presence in Santa Monica, transforming the restaurant edge into a lush, contemporary garden that softens the urban setting and frames the outdoor dining experience.
Along the sidewalk, long raised concrete planters establish a planted buffer between pedestrians and the restaurant's glazed patio. Layers of red kangaroo paw, sculptural succulents, aeoniums, aloe, and fine-textured accent plants are composed for strong color, form, and year-round interest. The deep reds and fresh greens stand out against the restaurant's warm wood cladding, dark metal, and concrete surfaces, giving the frontage a recognizable identity without obscuring views into the dining space.
Near the entry, oversized charcoal planters carry the planting language vertically with sculptural aloes and compact succulent masses. These freestanding elements reinforce the arrival while helping transition between the public sidewalk and the more intimate patio environment. The palette is intentionally water-conscious and well suited to Southern California's coastal climate, using durable species selected for texture, architectural form, and seasonal contrast.

The landscape extends the restaurant experience to the sidewalk, using bold planting, restrained materials, and layered scale to create a lively urban edge with a distinctly Southern California character.
