Grand Central Park
As architects, we must continue to evolve and remain in touch with current industry trends and building standards in order to adapt our designs to satisfy the expectations of builders and homeowners and to meet the efficiency performance criteria of our everchanging environment. The need for more energy efficient homes has become a primary concern of all who participate in the residential construction industry. Our clients are anxious to be at the forefront of this challenge. We at SDK have been and are currently creating home designs that respond and adapt to current and future energy standards. One example would be our collaboration at Grand Central Park in Conroe, Texas. In this new master-planned community of single-family detached for-rent homes, all residences are designed to meet a Net-Zero energy standard. This standard goes above and beyond the minimum energy prerequisites and provides each occupant with a home that essentially generates as much or more energy than it consumes. It does this by creating a building envelope that requires less energy than traditional designs and is equipped with a standard solar panel array sufficient to produce and store as much and more electric power than it uses. These “smart homes” are also equipped with up-to-date and user-friendly technologies that allow the homeowner to manage the environment they live in with ease and confidence.
